Digitising Spode

While working at Staffordshire University, my colleagues (Tom Vine and Rich Harper) and I were in regular contact with Prof. Neil Brownsword, assisting with a number of projects.

We had demonstrated the benefits of laser scanning and photogrammetry for archival purposes, in addition to VR as an educational tool.

With the British Ceramics Biennial on the horizon, Neil was keen to utilise each of these to preserve some of Spode’s mould stores while also connecting them with the general public.

We photographed numerous restricted access areas, creating interactive web walkthroughs to give visitors an insight into areas they would usually never be able to visit.

Our Shark VR Prototype was also repurposed to let users explore one of these areas with greater fidelity.

Our stand at the final event, comprising real-time photogrammetry capture, Virtual Reality and a touch screen experience of the restricted areas.
