Grind over Europe

I love Eastern Europe, in all its bleak, subtle beauty.
Krupskaya returned for our second tour there in 2008.
This time - I took a camera.

Brief:

I toured Eastern Europe with Krupskaya in 2007, absolutely loving the cities and countryside for their bleak but idyllic aesthetic characteristics. When we returned in 2008, I figured I'd actually take a camera with me.

Approach:

Though black and white does tend to stylise things, in this case it felt appropriate. With this series of images I focused purely on scenes and compositions that evoked the cold harshness I associated with the region in general.
